What are the odds that when Ally and Larry go out for a romantic dinner, the woman at the next table would find a diamond engagement ring in her cobbler? Odds are…that the waiter screwed up Larry's moment! Now Larry's convinced it was a bad omen, even though Corretta reassures him that he's being ridiculous. Although, when Larry's ex-wife Helena (guest star Gail O'Grady) shows up in the office, Corretta has second thoughts herself. What's worse, the bizarre events at dinner left Ally second-guessing the relationship. So when she spots Larry and Helena having a cutesy, whipped cream moment, she pretty much freaks out - and makes a heck of an ice cream sundae on Larry's head! Meanwhile, Richard flies back out to L.A. to help his friend Jane (remember, the actress?). She's trying to stop a men's magazine from publishing nude photos of her, and Richard is happy to help. So happy, in fact, that he enlists John Cage in a Cyrano-like charade in court. With John's arguments coming out of Richard's mouth he is actually winning. However, when the connection is cut-off, Richard flies solo and still manages to win the case! He also invites Jane to move to Boston, work at the firm and perfect her craft in local theatre. Surprisingly, she accepts. The office is all a flitter with news of Ally and Larry's breakup. Ling and Nelle even manage to fake concern. Later, Larry visits Ally at work and tries to make everything right, but of course it all comes out wrong. He just doesn't think he can have a successful relationship of any kind - most of all marriage. Ally is stunned, shocked, hurt. Later, she tells Renee that it's only a matter of time before Larry leaves her some pathetic goodbye note. When she runs into her mom, Ally crumbles into her mother's arms and sobs. Back in the office, in black and white no less, Elaine tells Ally that Larry stopped by and dropped off a note. That brings the color back to Ally's cheeks, but also a knot to the pit of her stomach. She doesn't take the note, just retreats to her office. So, of course Elaine opens it. It simply reads: I love you. Goodbye. |
