"Communication can sometimes be better in long-distance romances, not to mention when she's out of town, it's easier to cheat." Fishism

It seems everyone is trying to overcome a love obstacle, including Ally's latest client. Her last minute case involves a man being sued for fraud by a woman he met online. While awaiting her client in the courtroom, Ally discovers that Larry is representing the plaintiff. They get into a competitive debate over the merits of suing someone based on looks. Larry bets Ally a two-hour foot rub that he'll win. She accepts…and then meets her client for the first time. He's a three and a half foot midget. (Time to buy that massage oil, Ally!)

Meanwhile, Jackson and Ling are working for a client with a different type of obstacle. He can't get over a broken heart, so he spoiled his ex-girlfriend's wedding. She wasn't really flattered when he "objected" during the ceremony, so she's suing for emotional distress. But the case is having an interesting effect on Jackson. By witnessing his client's devotion to one woman, Jackson realizes he's still in love with Ling. When he confesses these feelings to Ling, she sticks with her story about being over him. But is she? Nevertheless, Jackson breaks up with Renee because of his feelings for Ling.

John's obstacle flew in from L.A. Cassandra (Bernadette Peters) flew three thousand miles to pursue John, and all he can do is freak out. He's certainly not over Melanie yet, and really not ready to start another relationship. John confides in Richard, who asks if he can take a crack at Cassandra - you know, since John's not interested.

Back in court, competition between Ally and Larry heats up. Rebecca, Larry's client, testifies that while she doesn't feel looks are important, she feels she had a right to know that Douglas was "disabled." Douglas' ego is further crushed when she admits that although she is in love with him, Rebecca says she knows she could never be with him. Douglas takes the stand and says that he knew his height would be an issue. He had hoped Rebecca would remember why she fell in love with him and give them a chance. Later, Ally accuses Larry of not loving her if she were a midget. When she says she's not that superficial, Larry calls her a liar. Smooth move there, Larry.

In closing arguments, Ally tries to persuade a jaded jury that her client was hurt much more by the whole affair than Rebecca. After all, not only did he get dumped; he was told no woman could ever love him because he's not "normal." She's so confident in her win, that she doubles her bet with Larry. Too bad she loses, big time!

At the bar, Richard busts a move on Cassandra and she busts a right hook on John! Later, John goes to see her at her hotel and explains that he never gave Richard the greenlight to pursue her. She understands that John isn't read for a relationship, but still feels like life's too short not to take a chance once and awhile - regardless of the obstacles.
