Valentine's Day brings a marriage proposal, a hot new associate and Barry Manilow!

Ally arrives in the office after a particularly jarring Barry Manilow hallucination. In the staff meeting, Ally watches as Richard announces that he's hired a new associate, Jackson Duper (Taye Diggs). But to Ally, it's Barry Manilow making the announcement! Ally leaves the meeting and plows right into studly Jackson. His good looks and buff bod actually take her mind off Larry for half a second.

However, when a stripper-esque woman carrying balloons wanders in asking for John Cage, Ally's thoughts are right back to her absent boyfriend. The stripper plants a big kiss on John, then reveals herself as Melanie! John notices a dejected Ally wandering off and follows her into her office. She insists she's okay, but wants to pawn off her latest case, which goes to trial that same day.

Richard assigns Ling and Jackson to Ally's case. It involves a young man, Clayton, trying to get an annulment from his cheating spouse and suing their minister for contributing to her affairs. Thou shalt not make out with the bride at the wedding! His wife claims she's a nymphomaniac, which is a disease. Um, right, a disease that forced her to sleep with over 100 men in three years. When Ling meets Jackson to discuss the case, she is shocked to recognize him as a guy she slept with years ago. He didn't bother to tell her his real name. So she's not going to bother to be nice to him.

Meanwhile, John has whisked Melanie off to the Unisex to tell her a secret. Inside one of the stalls he clicks his clicker. But the toilet doesn't flush this time. Instead, the wall slides open revealing John's little hideaway, complete with overstuffed chairs and bookcases. It's a tiny space reminiscent of Mel's apartment. Once inside the cozy setting, John produces a ring and proposes to Melanie. Mel is ecstatic, but doesn't blurt out "yes." She tells John that she loves him, but doesn't believe in the institution of marriage - or any institution, for that matter. John is speechless.

That night, after Ally talks to Larry on the phone, she opens a freezer in her room (how long has that been there?) to reveal the snowman Larry and Sam made her the day they left. Then she walks out to the living room and joins Barry Manilow for a song at the piano. Yep, she's losing it.

The next day, John talks to Ally about Melanie. Then Richard barges in after he finds out about Ling and Jackson. Ally tells John to stop being defensive and tells Richard that Ling loves him, so he has no reason to be jealous. She tells them both to just communicate with their women and get over it! After a brief shoving match, John and Richard leave - which makes room for Mark. He's getting a bad vibe about Jackson, especially since Elaine hasn't stopped sweating since the guy started!

In Richard's office, Richard and John relax in gravity boots. Mel walks in and tries to explain her point of view, but John think she's being ridiculous. They ultimately agree to give a long engagement a try. Elsewhere, Jackson is a little overwhelmed by the office "quirkiness." Between the Unisex, Elaine's sweaty, gyrating bra, John's quest for a fresh bowl and Mel's ticks, Jackson is not sure how to react. Luckily, it doesn't affect his ability in the courtroom.

Clayton's case is going well. His wife admits to cheating. The minister admits that "God made man weak," ministers included. Jackson's closing arguments seem to guarantee a win; however, the jury agrees to annul the marriage, but deems the minister not guilty. Afterward, Jackson approaches Ling and agrees to quit the firm if his presence is going to bother her. She says it won't, but she's still peeved that he lied to her.

Valentine's night at the bar, Mel surprises John with a performance by none other than Barry Manilow. Of course, Ally thinks she's hallucinating and tries to "confront the ghost" by slugging him! Barry ducks and the two wind up singing a duet to all the gathered lovebirds.
